In Hawaii we live for the outdoors – our beaches, mountains and endless sunshine make it very easy to stay active and stay outside. That’s why when it comes to taking care of our skin almost nothing is more important than daily sunscreen. However, not all sunscreens are alike and it is important to know what ingredients you are putting onto your skin and into the environment everyday. That’s why in addition to the wonderful ZO Skin Health, DefenAge, and SkinBetter Science® products we carry in the clinic we are excited to announce the launch of our very own Melinda Menezes, MD line of mineral sunscreens!
On Tuesday, July 3, 2018 Hawaii Governor, David Ige, signed SB 2571, Act 104 — prohibiting the sale, offer of sale, and distribution of sunscreens that contain the chemicals oxybenzone and octinoxate in Hawaii, beginning Jan. 1, 2021.
According to the Governor’s office, “Studies have documented the negative impact of these chemicals on corals and other marine life. Our natural environment is fragile, and our own interaction with the earth can have lasting impacts. This new law is just one step toward protecting the health and resiliency of Hawaii’s coral reefs,” said Gov. Ige in a press release on his website.
Our new line of sunscreens are mineral-based and completely oxybenzone and octinoxate free. Not only are they good for you and your skin they don’t contain ingredients known to cause harm to our corals and marine life. You can look good, feel great and stay protected using Melinda Menezes, MD sunscreen.
The Melinda Menezes, MD sunscreens offer broad spectrum protection at SPF 40 and come in tinted and non-tinted formulas that are mineral and zinc oxide-based. We will also carry a mineral lip sunscreen for keeping those pretty pouts perfectly protected too.
