Facial rejuvenation treatments such as injectable fillers help to reduce facial lines and restore volume to areas of the face that lose volume as we age. Unlike wrinkle relaxers, such as BOTOX® and Dysport®, injectable fillers fill lines, creases and wrinkles with substances that work with the body to restore youthful volume.

What to Expect
Dermal filler injections are quick, in-office procedures with little downtime. You may see some swelling or bruising depending on the area of the face you are treating and how deep the injections need to be made.
Pain is minimal as JUVÉDERM and Restylane products contain Lidocaine; however, ice and facial nerve blocks can be used to further reduce any discomfort.
In many treatment areas Dr. Menezes can use a microcannula instead of a needle to inject the treatment. Microcannula are very thin, soft and flexible compared to rigid needles and can drastically reduce post treatment swelling and bruising. Blood vessels are simply pushed out of the way instead of poked or nicked with a needle. The microcannula is a great option for any patients uncomfortable with needles and makes the injection experience more positive.
Dermal filler results are long lasting. Most patients maintain results from 6 months up to two years. For best results Dr. Menezes recommends most patients come in for a “touch up” appointment every 6 months.
Dermal fillers are effective treatments but are not for all patients. Please tell Dr. Menezes if you are:
- Pregnant or breastfeeding
- Have recently used drugs that thin the blood or prevent clotting
- Have had allergic reactions to microorganisms known as gram-positive bacteria
- Have had serious allergic reactions to drugs that have previously required in-hospital treatment
- Have bleeding disorders
- Have a known allergy to Lidocaine
Some minor swelling, itching, redness and tenderness at the injection site are common after treatment and should last less than seven (7) days. While you can return to work and daily activities immediately following your injection, Dr. Menezes recommends that you take it easy the day of your treatment and resume exercise the following day. Take care of your skin by following your healthy skin fitness routine and always protecting your skin with sunscreen.
